Sue Ross

Riding School Instructor

Sue Ross has been riding horses since she was 8 years old. Starting Western on two dear 11 hand Shetland ponies purchased for 50.00 and 75.00 dollars respectively. A lot of her riding then was bareback and if you think 11 hand Shetlands can’t jump, think again!
At 11 Sue joined the Halifax Junior Bengal Lancers in Halifax and eventually rode in the Musical Ride which traveled all over Nova Scotia.

In University, among other courses of study, Sue studied Recreation here at Acadia graduating with a Bachelor’s in Outdoor Recreation (‘83), and obtained her Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University (’92 ). Recently Sue returned to school in Colorado, USA and is now a Certified Equine Massage Therapist (‘08 ). On the horizon is moving her English Riding Instructor qualification up to Coaching level I.

Sue has shown locally in Hunter, as a youngster. As an adult she has shown Jumper to 3’3’’ and is an avid Event rider. She is a member of the board of Horse Trials Nova Scotia.
In the past number of years Sue has become a student of Classical Dressage and has studied with Rachael Argo and Johanna Baptiste of Spain.

Sue promotes communication, gentleness, safety, and a playful spirit to be with and work with the majestic horses we love. Learning is best fostered through building a trusting foundation, mastering of skills in small obtainable steps, enjoyment and play for both horse and rider.
